Body oil can work wonders for dry, parched skin, but only if it’s applied properly. Yep, there’s a catch.
While it seems like common sense to apply oil to dry skin, you may have the wrong diagnosis. In fact, your skin could be suffering from trans-epidermal water loss, the natural condition through which water escapes from the skin’s surface. Essentially, it means that your skin is dehydrated rather than simply dry. Telltale signs include skin that feels tight, itchy, sensitive, dull, and/or irritated.
Most oils and balms are water free. If you’re relying on them as your sole moisturizer, they’re not doing the job—until you add water to your skin. It’s as simple as that:
